Ensembles

For String players

We have 3 well established string ensembles that encourage musical development from beginners (Strings4Starters) through Lord of the Strings (a progressive 4-part ensemble experience up to grade 4) to All Strung Out, our leading string orchestra.

The ensembles perform regularly and have recently won several awards at the Harrogate Competitive Music Festival.

Recent additions

In October ’24 we started a very young string class called ‘String-Lings’ which is aimed at first musical experiences on the Violin. In September ’26 we are planning to start an additional String-Ling class.

In September ’26 on Thursday evenings we are launching Rock / pop group  classes. One for teens and one for adults, led by renowned local rock musician & teacher George Farrar.

  • Ages 11–16 Thursdays 5.30 to 6.45pm
  • Adults Thursdays 7.00 to 8.30pm

Once these classes are established, we have plans to create a group for younger ages.

The classes will provide students with the opportunity to develop their musicianship in a real band environment, learning essential skills such as ensemble playing, stagecraft, performance techniques, improvisation, communication, and arranging popular rock songs.

The programme is particularly suited to:

  • Drummers
  • Bass Players
  • Keyboard and Piano Players
  • Guitarists
  • Vocalists

George’s extensive performance experience and passion for nurturing local talent make him the perfect mentor for students of all ages.

The new Thursday evening rock groups aim to create a fun, supportive and inspiring environment where musicians can connect with others who share their passion for rock music, while working towards live performances and showcase events throughout the year. Places are expected to be limited and early registration is encouraged. The cost for adults is £125 for 6 weeks, the child cost is £105 for 6 weeks.

Adult Classical Guitar Group – This is likely to run for an hour on a Monday evening with Jacob at 6pm and will aim at performing Latin American repertoire whilst developing suitable confidence & technique. This day & time may be flexible, so if you are interested, please let us know.

Guitar Gym started in February 2026

Whether you are just starting out or looking to enhance your skills, our experienced instructor Charlie will guide you every step of the way. A brief introduction to Charlie... As a professional musician he has performed all over the country in many different genres including jazz, rock, pop, blues, and country. Years of guitar tuition has led to him gaining a breadth of experience teaching a wide range of students who have varied in age, ability and background. Having personally seen and experienced the benefits of group tuition as both a teacher and a student, the ability to learn and play alongside others is an inspirational environment that Charlie is looking forward to fostering for Harrogate’s budding guitar enthusiasts!

Another one for the adults! These classes include a pair of sticks and a practice pad so you can practice at home without a kit (it's more quiet for parents / spouses also :) How to play and interpret drum music will be covered, alongside favourite rock drum beats.
