Harrogate Music School mainly teaches drum kit, but we also have access to tuned percussion such as Timpani, Glockenspiel and Marimba.

What are Percussion Instruments?

What music styles will I learn?

At Harrogate Music School, you’ll have the opportunity to delve into various music styles, including rock, pop, jazz, classical, Latin, and more. Our instructors will tailor lessons to suit your interests and help you develop a versatile repertoire across different genres.

How long are lessons?

Our percussion lessons typically range from 20 to 60 minutes, depending on your skill level and preferences. Longer lessons allow for deeper exploration of techniques, repertoire, and musical concepts.

Which ages do Harrogate Music School teach on Percussion and will I need my own instrument?

Percussion lessons at Harrogate Music School are open to students of ages 8 to adult. Our instructors are experienced in adapting teaching methods to suit the learning styles of different age groups, ensuring an engaging and rewarding musical experience. While we encourage students to have their own drum kit or practice pads for practice, we also provide access to our studio equipment during lessons.

What will I learn in a typical lesson?

In a typical percussion lesson at Harrogate Music School, you can expect a well-rounded curriculum that covers essential techniques, rhythm studies, music theory, sight-reading, ensemble skills, and performance preparation. A sample 60-minute lesson plan may include warm-up exercises, rudiments, groove studies, repertoire practice, improvisation, and musical interpretation.

Do you have to study towards music exams with HMS?

Prospective customers of Harrogate Music School should know that while studying towards recognized music qualifications is possible on any instrument, it is not a requirement of tuition with HMS. Our focus is on providing quality instruction tailored to each student’s goals and interests, whether they aim for formal qualifications or simply want to enhance their musical skills for personal enjoyment and growth.
